SPAN Drive

SPAN is bringing artificial intelligence and smart technology into the home. The SPAN Drive is their next step in this ecosystem, allowing users to charge their EVs with energy collected from their roof-mounted solar arrays. The system also allows scheduling vehicle charging during off-peak hours when grid-supplied electricity costs are typically lower.

As an outdoor product, the SPAN Drive must withstand rain, snow, ice, UV light exposure (from the sun), and extreme temperatures. Pump worked with SPAN and their industrial design partner to design, prototype, and evaluate the full SPAN Drive enclosure.

Pump helped with many of the project’s key challenges and decisions. We ensured that the electronics enclosure met UL standards for electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE). We also collaborated with SPAN and their manufacturing partner to ensure the design was optimized for their specific manufacturing process. And finally, we made sure the layout and usability of installation were satisfactory for SPAN’s installation partners.
