Snap-On was with an Austin industrial design firm on a complete re-design of their TechAngle electronic torque wrench line when they approached Pump Studios for help. Pump integrated with the industrial design team, ensuring the design was robust, ergonomic, and addressed a list of enhancements pulled from user research and Snap-On’s years of experience in the industry. The resulting design addresses ergonomic concerns with a single piece over-molded handle shaped to keep the technician’s hand from sliding off the end. Pump developed a patent pending shock-mounted battery compartment, and worked closely with tooling engineers to select specific materials allowing the wrench to survive intense drops and shocks prevalent in a service environment.
Pump worked closely with Snap-On throughout the prototyping, testing, and production process; troubleshooting problems seen early on, and developing mechanical and electro-mechanical solutions along the way.
